Sustainability is such a spoken word today but do you really know its meaning?

The word sustainable comes from the Latin “sustentare” and means to sustain, to support, to conserve and to care. The expression 'Sustainable Development' appears at the end of the 20th century with the aim to connect some movements, such as social justice or environment causes.

In 1987, the Brundtland Report defines sustainable development as: 'Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs, ensuring a balance between economic growth, care for the environment and good -being social '.

As we can see, 3 main factors must coexist for sustainability to exist:

Social: refers to human rights and equal opportunities for the entire population. To this end, social inclusion, poverty elimination, cultural diversity and an end to exploitation are taken into account.

Environmental: includes the conservation of all-natural resources on the planet with a view to implementing actions to minimize negative impacts on air, water and soil, preserve biodiversity, protect and improve the quality of the environment and promote responsible production and consumption.

Economic: It is related to the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. The economy must also consider the social and environmental issue.

So, sustainability is not just stopping using plastic bags and riding more on public transport. It’s much more...

Being sustainable is a lifestyle, a constant concern about our impact in the world and thinking about the future of the planet and the next generations.
